Common Plumbing Issues
Residential and commercial properties encounter a range of common plumbing issues that require professional attention.
What Plumbing Problems are Most Common?
- One widespread problem is leaky faucets, which, though often overlooked, can lead to significant water waste over time. Similarly, running toilets presents a similar issue, with a single unit able to waste up to 200 gallons of water per day.
- Drain clogs in sinks and showers are also frequent troubles homeowners face, often resulting from the buildup of hair, soap, and other debris. These clogs can lead to water backing up, potential flooding, and even damage to your pipes if not addressed promptly.
- Water heater issues are another common concern, affecting the availability of hot water for showers, washing dishes, and other household tasks. Signs of a potential water heater problem include inconsistent water temperature, unusual noises from the unit, or visible leakage.
- Low water pressure, too, can signal various issues, from simple faucet aerator problems to more severe concerns like hidden water leaks that could be causing structural damage to your property.
At Blue Sky, our expert plumbing repair pros in Denver are well-versed in these common issues and more. We are equipped to provide efficient, reliable solutions to keep your plumbing system in top shape.
Plumbing Repair Services at Blue Sky
Residential Water Leak Repairs
Water leaks are not only annoying, but they can also cause significant damage to your home. The consequences can be severe, from expensive water damage to the growth of harmful microbes and excessive water consumption. That’s why it’s crucial to address pipe leaks promptly.
At Blue Sky, our skilled plumbing technicians are ready to diagnose the problem and take the necessary steps to resolve it effectively.
Corrosion & Joint Damage
Over time, pipes can develop rust, leading to the gradual deterioration of the piping material. This corrosion eventually results in the formation of cracks and holes in the pipe. Unbalanced pH levels, mineral content, untreated clogs, and high water pressure can all contribute to pipe damage and encourage corrosion.
Water Damage & Mold / Mildew Growth
Severe or unnoticed pipe leaks can lead to water damage, causing structural harm to your home and requiring immediate, costly repairs. Not only that, but stagnant water also becomes a breeding ground for hazardous mold and mildew, posing health risks.
If you encounter a water leak or notice any of the warning signs mentioned above, don’t hesitate to contact Blue Sky. Our efficient and affordable water line services, along with our other plumbing services, are here to assist you!
Bathroom Plumbing Repairs
Shower, toilet, and sink faucets are essential plumbing fixtures in any household bathroom. They play a crucial role in safely disposing of wastewater and sewage and providing access to clean and potable water. Clogs in toilets, shower drains, and sewer lines can lead to unpleasant incidents where raw sewage and wastewater overflow from the pipes. Additionally, leaks in sink and shower faucets cause annoying drips and result in unexpectedly high water bills.
At Blue Sky, our skilled technicians are proficient in drain cleaning services, sewer line repairs, and all residential plumbing repairs throughout Denver. We are committed to ensuring the safety of your toilets and showers and the proper functioning of your plumbing appliances and fixtures.
Kitchen Plumbing Repairs
The kitchen is a room that requires properly functioning plumbing fixtures to ensure the provision of clean water. However, pipe corrosion can lead to the flow of rusty, discolored water from the sink faucet. Clogs may also impede the drainage of dirty water while leaking pipes can contribute to the growth of mold and mildew within the cabinets.
These potential health hazards underscore the importance of contacting Blue Sky for professional plumbing repair services. Our experienced Denver plumbers will swiftly address the issue and restore the functionality of your kitchen.
How to Prevent Plumbing Problems
Preventing plumbing issues is much less expensive and troublesome than dealing with major repairs or replacements. While we will gladly handle all of the specialized maintenance, there are steps that you can take at home to keep your plumbing in tip-top shape.
Here are some preventive measures you can take to keep your plumbing system operating smoothly:
- Regular inspections: Regular plumbing inspections can help identify potential issues before they become significant problems. Our plumbers are equipped to perform comprehensive checks and can provide you with an accurate assessment of your plumbing system’s health.
- Avoiding harsh chemicals: Although they are marketed as quick solutions, chemical drain cleaners can corrode your pipes over time. Instead, use a plunger or a professional drain cleaning service like what we offer at Blue Sky.
- Proper disposal of food waste: Food waste should never go down the drain, as it can cause severe pipe blockages. Use a garbage disposal, compost bin, or garbage can to dispose of food waste properly.
- Insulating pipes: Insulate your pipes during the colder months can prevent them from freezing and bursting.
- Installing water softeners: If your home has hard water, consider installing a water softener to prevent mineral buildup in your pipes.

Frequently Asked Plumbing Questions
-
Why is my drain clogged? I’m so careful!
We believe you when you tell us that you are so careful about putting grease down your drains. Unfortunately, most people end up putting it down accidentally no matter how hard they try to do the opposite. When you rinse plates, bowls, pots, and pans in your sink, they often have a thin layer of grease on them. This gets rinsed down the drain with the rest of the debris from your plate. When this grease contacts a cold pipe downstream from the kitchen sink, it solidifies and attaches to the pipe wall. Over the years, even the smallest amounts of grease can build up and cause clogs. Don’t worry, though! Your Blue Sky plumber will get that clog out fast!

What kind of sink should I get?
When it comes to getting a new sink, you have many options. These include:
- Cast iron
- Stainless steel
- Corian
- Fiberglass
- Enameled steel
- Acrylic
- And more!
When our experts help you install a sink, we’ll ask you what you plan to do with it. Will you wash dishes in it regularly? Is it likely you will drop dishes or silverware in it? Then, we’ll ask you about your preferences. Do you want a large sink or a small one? Do you want a sink that sits on top of the counter or below the counter level? Once we know the answers to these questions, we’ll work with you to find the perfect kind of sink for your home. In general, cast iron and stainless steel are more durable than some other types of sinks, but they may require special care.
-
What kind of water heater should I get?
Most of the time, the type of water heater you get will be determined by the type of connections you already have. Unless you are highly motivated to change the type of water heater that you have, the best choice is usually to get the same kind that was installed before. If you are in a place to change the type of water heater that you have, gas is often the better option. It is cheaper and can heat larger quantities of water faster. However, gas water heaters are usually larger than electric ones and you cannot store flammable liquids nearby.

What is hydro jetting?
Hydro jetting offers a way to clean your drains without digging up your yard or pulling your home apart to access clogged pipes. Instead, we use a tool that sprays highly-pressurized water into your pipes. We control the pressure of the water and where it sprays, so we can remove your clog and clean your entire pipe. A hydrojetting tool has one nozzle that sprays forward and 6-8 that sprays backward. On the first pass, the reverse-facing jets propel the nozzle forward while the front one breaks up clogs. When we pull the nozzle back through the pipe, the reverse jets scour the edges of the pipe until they look like new. If your plumber thinks that hydrojetting is a good option for you, we’ll let you know and get the job done fast.
-
What is the best kind of pipe for my home?
Most of the time, we suggest plastic or PEX/PVC piping for your home. This material lasts for a long time because it doesn’t rust and is less likely to crack or break than some other types of pipe. Unless you are in a very specific situation, which our plumbers will discover, we highly recommend this type of piping for your home.
-
How do I know if my toilet is leaking?
Toilet leaks are more common than you might think. This can make your water bill sky-high and leave you wondering what is going on. Here are a few signs that your toilet is leaking:
- You frequently have to jiggle the handle to make the toilet stop running.
- You have to hold down the handle when to flush to get the tank to empty.
- Water runs over the top of the overflow pipe.
- You hear sounds of water running in the toilet when it is not being used.
- Water runs down the sides of the toilet bowl long after the toilet was last used.
- You hear the toilet tank refilling even though it hasn’t been emptied recently.
-
What can I put down my garbage disposal?
As long as you use enough water, you can put almost any non-fibrous food down your garbage disposal. This includes bones up to ½” in diameter, coffee grounds, eggs and egg shells, orange rinds, apples, and potato peelings. Most problems occur when you don’t use enough water and don’t allow the water to run for at least 10 seconds after the food disappears.
